Furqan, al-

A solemn synonym for the Quran. Furqan means “discrimination,” “separation,” “criterion,” “salvation,” and “proof.” The term appears in the Quran and was used by the Prophet Muhammad . The furqan or proof is said to have been “sent down” to humankind, as were all scriptures revealed by Allah.
