Constitution of Medina

Charter set up by Muhammad , outlining the rights and duties of all citizens and the relationship of the Muslim community to other communities on the basis of religious confession rather than tribal ties or ethnicity. Recognized Jews as an integral part of the community, allied with Muslims but with religious and cultural autonomy. Considered the ideal model for an Islamic state.
