Abd al-Jabbar, Qadi

(d. 1024 )

Prominent Mutazili theologian. An adherent of the Shafii school of law, he was appointed chief justice (qadi) under the Buwayhids. His Fadl al-itizal wa tabaqat al-mutazilah is a major source of Mutazili hagiography, and his Al-mughni fi abwab al-tawhid wa'l-adl is our major source for Mutazili doctrine.
