Yarmuk, Battle of

Battle in 637 between Muslim forces led by Khalid ibn al-Walid and the Byzantine emperor Heraclius . The decisive Muslim victory led to the Byzantine withdrawal from Syria and Palestine, which surrendered to the Muslims between 637 and 647 . Jerusalem also surrendered to the Muslims in 638 , one of the most peaceful conquests in Jerusalem's history.
