Egyptian historian, scholar, and judge. Assumed administrative, religious, and teaching positions in Cairo and Damascus. Dedicated the later years of his life to teaching and writing. Produced books on a wide variety of subjects, including the topography of al-Fustat and Cairo, the history of Alexandria and Egypt, geography, biographies of prominent Egyptians, and brief treatises on minerals and bees.
