Khalafallah, Muhammad Ahmad

(d. 1991 )

Egyptian Islamic modernist thinker and writer. Wrote a controversial doctoral dissertation suggesting that Quranic accounts of prophets and events prior to Muhammad were literary and artistic, rather than historical, in nature. Argued that Arab socialism is consistent with Islam. Claimed that the social welfare of the Muslim community takes precedence over Quranic texts.
