Kaffarah

Reparation; expiation from wrongdoing; atonement; penance. To be preceded by remorse for having done wrong or forgotten religious requirements. Consists of self-inflicted punishments of a religious character, which courts are not authorized to enforce. The Quran provides numerous expiations for various sins, including fasting, emancipation of slaves, and donations to charity.
