A distinguished Shafii jurist of Mamluk Egypt and member of the prominent Banu Jamaah clan. Served as chief justice under the Mamluks of Cairo and twice in Damascus, during a period when Shafii jurisprudence was favored by the state. Of his many works, the best-known is Expounding the Rules Governing the (Political) Organization of the Muslim People.
