    Muslim professor of corporate law and Islamic jurisprudence. Received a doctorate and a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Former professor of philosophy and Wall Street lawyer. Founder of KARAMAH: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights. Founding editor of Hypatia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy. Has authored several articles and books and spoken internationally on women in Islam and Islamic law, Islamic constitutionalism and democracy, Muslims in the United States, and international law. Activism is diverse, including civil and human rights, interfaith dialogue, family and gender violence prevention, and ethics and public policy. Particularly active in reforming Muslim personal status laws.
