A former member of the Jamaat-i Islami, this influential Pakistani Islamic scholar has, in his Urdu translation of the Quran and commentary, extended the work of his tutor, Amin Ahsan Islahi . Is frequently labeled a modernist for his insistence on the historical contextualization of Muhammad 's revelation in order to grasp its true moral import. Has established two research centers in Lahore, al-Mawrid and Danish Sara, and teaches at the Civil Service Academy.
