    (b. 1952 )

    Muslim academic and activist. Trained in Islamic studies, but her scholarship and activism center on gender jihad (struggle for Islamic gender parity). Active with the Women in Islam group in Malaysia. In her Quran and Woman ( 1996 ), creates a female-inclusive hermeneutical approach to the Quran based on ijtihadist methods articulated by Fazlur Rahman (d. 1988 ).
