Treaty of Hudaybiyah
Truce in 628 between the Meccan tribe of Quraysh and Muhammad . The Meccans agreed to allow Muslims to make the pilgrimage but refused to recognize Muhammad's claim to prophethood. Muhammad agreed that children who left Mecca to become Muslims without parental consent would be returned to their parents, but Muslim apostates would not be returned. The treaty eased Meccan hostility toward Islam and confirmed recognition of Muhammad's political and military power. Allowed Muhammad to subdue one of Mecca's key allies, the oasis of Khaybar, opening the door to the eventual conquest of Mecca in 630 . Mecca ceased trying to defeat Muhammad after the treaty was concluded.
