Talfiq
Piecing together. Legal term describing the derivation of rules from material of various schools of Islamic law. In modern times talfiq was advocated by Muhammad Abduh (d. 1905 ) and his student Muhammad Rashid Rida (d. 1935 ) as a means to reform Islamic law. Ikhtilaf (differences of opinion) were a source of intellectual wealth, they reasoned, that ought to be utilized for the benefit of the whole community.
