    Tabligh

    Communication of a message or revelation; fulfillment of a mission. Interchangeable with dawah (propagation of faith) in modern usage. The Quranic use of related words signifies that proclamation of the message is sufficient for fulfillment of the mission; a preacher is not responsible for conversion. Muhammad Rashid Rida (d. 1935 ) believed that tabligh was a duty of all Muslims; Abu al-Ala Mawdudi (d. 1979 ), the founder of the Jamaat-i Islami, stressed that humans are free to choose between truth and falsehood and that tabligh does not entail coercion (prohibited in Quran 2:256 ). It forms the spiritual imperative behind the largest contemporary Muslim transnational movement, the Tablighi Jamaat.
