    Sadaqah

    Charity, alms, freely made offering. Sometimes used synonymously with zakah, which refers to the alms required of all Muslims of means. Can also be a supererogatory charity, expiation for offenses (e.g., Quran 2:271; 9:104), or a way of making up for not having performed certain rituals (e.g., cutting the hair or shaving the head after pilgrimage).
