    Messianism

    Belief that a religio-political figure will appear at the end of time to lead society to justice. Shared by Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Islamic messianism combines the belief that Jesus is the Messiah and will return at the end of time with the belief that a divinely appointed Mahdi (guide) will appear around the same time to deliver people from tyranny and oppression.
