5.9 Concordance Search

The Concordance Search is accessible via Search tab in the Navigation bar. This form offers a more sophisticated and extensive search of A Concordance of the Quran than is permitted in Quick Search (which searches the indexes only).

Options on this form allow users to conduct a full text search of all English indexes, transliterated Arabic words, and root word entries in the concordance.

Users can narrow search to specific English indexes, locate Concordance entries for transliterated Arabic words and word roots, or find text containing references to same.

Indexes

The Index search options offer the selection of "All" or one of the indexes (eg, General; Divine Name; Proper Nouns, etc). Results can lead either to a single Index entry, or to a list of matches from Indexes containing the search term. Users may choose to enter any English word or words, or transliterated Arabic words or roots.

Arabic words and roots

Diacritical marks can be used to obtain more specific results. You can enter text directly into the search box, or paste terms copied from other content within this site or from other sources (provided transliteration follows ALA/Library of Congress standards).

When searching for a root word, please enter spaces between transliterated characters within the root. If an initial asterisk is used in imitation of the print Concordance (as in "*S L M"), only roots will be included in the results.

If no asterisk is used, results may include full Arabic words as well as the root. Thus in this search form asterisks are not treated as wildcards, but are part of the search term.

This search is also accessible from the Qur'anic Studies main page on the global navigation bar.
