5.8 Qur'an Search

The Qur'an Search is accessible via the Search tab in the Navigation bar. Focusing on the Qur'an specifically, it allows users to conduct full-text searches within the two English interpretations of the Qur'an on this site.

The fields that can be searched include:

  • Full text of Qur'an interpretations
  • Selection of A.J. Arberry and/or M.A.S. Abdel Haleem interpretations by checking appropriate box

The search defaults to the full text of both translations, including the introductory sections in the M.A.S. Abdel Haleem version.

To confine search to one or more individual chapters of the Qur'an, you can select from a drop-down menu of chapters, which lists the chapter titles used in both versions of the Qur'an (to select assorted multiple chapters, use Control+click; a successive range of chapters can be selected using Shift+click.

In the full-text Qur'an search, Boolean operators such as OR, NEAR, NOT, etc. and nesting can be particularly helpful. If exact text is known, quote marks will also prove useful, e.g., "people of the book" and other likely phrases. See section 5.1 for guidance and suggestions.

This search is also accessible from the Qur'anic Studies main page on the global navigation bar.
